A ANEEL (The National Electric Energy Agency) authorized this week the start of commercial operation of the Barro Alto Solar Complex, in the municipality of the same name, in Goiás. The agency released the commissioning of the Barro Alto I to VI photovoltaic plants, which together have an installed capacity of 350 MW.
With an investment exceeding R$ 1,3 billion, the project is part of a joint venture between the steelmaker Gerdau and the investment management firm Newave Capital. When fully completed, the complex is expected to reach 450 MW of installed capacity.
Construction began in 2024, with plans to install over 730 photovoltaic modules, a structure sufficient to generate more than 100 MW of average energy, equivalent to the consumption of a new city of approximately 365 inhabitants.
All funding is 100% domestic, with over R$ 900 million raised through a Private Equity Investment Fund (FIP) with the participation of more than 15 investors.
According to the partnership plan, the plant will supply part of the energy generated to Gerdau's production units in Brazil. In addition, the plant was designed to serve customers in the Free Energy Market.
