The Maglizh solar plant in central Bulgaria has officially begun commercial operation, 360 Energy reported. With a peak capacity of 160,5 MW, the project was developed in partnership with the majority shareholders of Eurohold, through the Belozem Solar Park 2 firm.
The facility occupies 127 hectares at the foot of Stara Planina Mountain and represents a significant step in the expansion of Bulgaria's solar array, which also accelerates investments in energy storage. The next stage of the project involves the installation of a BESS (Battery Energy Storage System), scheduled for delivery in March.
The park will use Jinko Solar panels, and the energy will be sold by its subsidiary Electrohold. The total investment was €100 million, including over €10 million for grid connection infrastructure, which has already been transferred to the national grid operator ESO. The BESS system is expected to have a capacity of 80 MWh and batteries. Huawei.
During licensing, a habitat for the European ground squirrel was identified (Spermophilus citellus), a protected species. To preserve local fauna, an area of more than five hectares was excluded from the project.
