The IAT (Water and Land Institute) has granted Ventos Sul Energia the installation license for the Palmas II Wind Farm Complex, one of Paraná's largest renewable energy projects. The document, valid until 2031, authorizes the start of construction and consolidates the state's progress in diversifying its electricity grid. The official license ceremony took place last week in the presence of Governor Carlos Massa Ratinho Junior.
With an estimated investment of R$3,5 billion, the project will have 504 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity and will be built in the municipality of Palmas, in southwestern Paraná. The complex will feature 72 7-MW wind turbines mounted on 160-meter-high concrete towers, distributed across seven wind farms occupying an area of approximately 145 hectares.
The project is expected to generate 150 megawatt-hours (MWh) per month, enough energy to supply 300 homes, or approximately 1,2 million people. The construction phase is expected to last two years and create up to 5 direct and indirect jobs, with priority given to local workers.
With the issuance of the license, Ventos Sul Energia is authorized to begin civil and infrastructure construction, including towers, access points, substations, and electrical interconnection systems. The LI (Installation License) represents a decisive milestone in the project's viability, offering legal and environmental security and increasing the potential for attracting new investors.
After construction is complete, the company will need to apply to the IAT for an Operating License (LO), which will allow the effective start of power generation. Until then, the company will continue with the implementation, monitoring, and compliance with environmental conditions defined by the state agency.
The next technical step involves connecting the complex to the SIN (National Interconnected System), through a 525 kV transmission line that will link the Palmas Collector Substation to the Eletrosul connection point, in General Carneiro (PR).
In addition to the wind project, Paraná is expected to receive R$1,1 billion in new investments for the implementation of 11 Small Hydroelectric Power Plants (SHPPs) in 15 municipalities, reinforcing the state's leading role in clean and decentralized energy generation. Paraná currently has 114 SHPPs and Hydroelectric Generating Plants (HGPs) in operation, consolidating its position as one of the country's leading renewable energy producers.
