A ANEEL The Brazilian National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) approved in January an average increase of 24,13% in the electricity bill for residents of the state of Roraima. For this reason, the agency's director-general, Sandoval Feitosa, was invited to provide explanations about this measure to the Senate's Oversight and Control Committee. The presentation of accounts took place this week.
The director claimed that the increase was mainly due to sector charges, which accounted for 9% of the increase. Another reason he cited was the interconnection of Roraima to the SIN (National Interconnected System), which allows for the transfer of energy and can prevent blackouts.
Electricity bills in Roraima will see an average increase of 24,13%.
“If there were no interconnection, we would have a readjustment of around 18%, which is also considered a significant amount. And why would these other values occur? Due to other costs that would also exist when the operation is isolated, notably the cost of generation, which is more expensive because of the isolated operation,” said Feitosa.
The senators questioned whether the ANEEL They could request a tariff deferral to postpone the price increase, which has already happened in other states, but Sandoval explained that this is done before the increase is approved, at the initiative of the energy concessionaire.
The director of ANEEL He said that for 2027 there is a forecast of lower tariffs, due to the shutdown of some of the state's thermoelectric power plants.
However, the chairman of the committee, Senator Dr. Hiran (PP), reported that he formally requested the reinstatement of this tariff. The parliamentarian stated that he intends to summon the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, to discuss the increase in electricity bills.
