A ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) announced this Friday (30) the maintenance of the green tariff flag in the month of February. With this, there will be no additional charges on consumers' electricity bills.
According to the Agency, the scenario is a result of more favorable hydrological conditions recorded in the second half of January, compared to the beginning of the month.
The volume of rainfall contributed to the recovery of reservoir levels at hydroelectric plants in the Southeast, Midwest, Northeast, and North regions, reducing the need to activate thermoelectric plants, which have a higher cost.
According to the calendar released by ANEELThe tariff flag to be applied in March will be announced on February 27th.
Tariff flag
Created in 2015, the tariff flag system aims to reflect the variable costs of electricity generation. Divided into colors, the flags indicate how much it costs the SIN (National Interconnected System) to generate the energy consumed by homes, businesses, and industries.
Monthly, the operating conditions of the electrical system are evaluated by the ONS (National System Operator), which defines the most appropriate generation strategy to meet demand and estimates the costs that may be passed on through tariff flags.
Therefore, the colors of the flags are determined based on the projected variation in energy costs each month. When the flag is green, there are no additional charges on the electricity bill.
In the case of yellow or red flags, an additional charge is applied for every 100 kilowatt-hours (kWh) consumed. Annually, at the end of the rainy season, usually in April, the ANEEL defines the values of the tariff flags for the following cycle.
Currently, the increases are as follows: under the yellow flag, applied in less favorable generation conditions, the tariff increases by R$ 1,88 for every 100 kWh consumed.
Under the red flag – Level 1, the surcharge is R$ 4,46 per 100 kWh, while at Level 2, which reflects even more costly generation conditions, the additional cost reaches R$ 7,87 for every 100 kWh consumed.
