Apple has signed a long-term agreement to purchase approximately 75% of the energy generated by a 40-megawatt solar farm under construction in northwestern Poland. The project is expected to become operational in 2025.
The project is being developed in the city of Resko by the Israeli Econergy, under a 19-year Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA). The partnership was considered essential to enable financing for the plant.
The energy purchased by Apple will be enough to charge all its devices sold in Europe, according to the company's estimates. The project is part of a larger strategy that aims to generate more than 1 million MWh of clean energy annually on the continent.
The initiative is part of a $600 million investment by Apple in renewable projects in the Europe, which includes other countries such as Romania, Italy, Greece, and Latvia. This measure reinforces the company's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality in its operations by 2030.
