Apple announced that it is building a new 240 MWh energy storage plant at its solar farm in Northern California, in the United States. The work is being carried out in partnership with Tesla, which will supply batteries for the facility. “We are building one of the largest battery projects in the country, California Flats, an industry-leading grid-scale storage plant,” the company said. “This initiative supports the company's 130 MW photovoltaic farm, which provides all of its renewable energy in California, by storing excess electricity generated during the day and deploying it when it is most needed,” the note added.

In total, the company, which aims to become carbon neutral across its supply chain and products by 2030, has invested approximately $50 million to deploy 85 Tesla Megapack batteries, which will be embedded in 60-foot-thick concrete blocks. Last quarter, Tesla, for example, deployed a record 1.584 MWh of energy storage – an increase of nearly 200% year-over-year and 100% growth quarter-over-quarter.
