During COP30 in Belém, Pará, BNDES announced it had secured R$ 1,729 billion from the German bank KfW to boost urban mobility and renewable energy projects. The agreement reinforces the cooperation between the institutions, which spans six decades.
Two lines of credit to accelerate the energy transition.
Of the total amount raised, €130 million will be allocated to urban mobility initiatives, focusing on the electrification of bus fleets. The package also includes the negotiation of a technical cooperation agreement to update the TPC Guide, a tool used to guide public transport projects.
The second line of funding, amounting to €150 million, will be applied to solar and wind power generation projects, expanding the country's renewable capacity.
In announcing the agreement, the president of BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante, stated that the partnership reaffirms Brazil's commitment to a low-carbon economy. "The funding announced during COP30 signals that we are on the right track towards a fairer, greener, and more inclusive economy," he said.
Stefan Wintels, CEO of KfW, also highlighted the trust between the banks and the potential to expand investments. He reinforced that cooperation is strategic for accelerating sustainable solutions.
The partnership between BNDES and KfW will celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2025. Since 1965, 17 operations have been contracted, totaling US$1,2 billion and financing projects in renewable energy, urban mobility, and environmental protection.
