O BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development) and the GFANZ (Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero) came together to mobilize the bank's capital with private resources to invest in decarbonization technologies for the Brazilian economy, such as renewable energy and biofuels.

The agreement was announced on Monday (26) and will be signed during the preliminary meetings of the G20 Finance Track, by the president of BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante, and by the co-president of GFANZ and special envoy of ONU for Climate Action and Finance, Mark Carney.

O GFAZN brings together 675 financial institutions in 50 countries with the aim of contributing to achieving the goal of net zero emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050.

The partnership will identify the main Brazilian projects who can receive this funding. “We are studying new possibilities to accelerate the green reindustrialization of Brazil and the partnership with GFANZ can further help the country to attract international investments”, assesses Mercadante.

According to Carney, “Brazil's historic commitment and outstanding performance in innovation have made the country a global climate leader. Renewing your ambitions creates a unique opportunity to accelerate inclusive, strong and sustainable growth. The platform will support the data, planning and investment that this ambitious and fundamental transition requires.”
