The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, announced this Wednesday (15) that Brazil will hold its first auction for contracting batteries in December. The initiative, according to him, is part of the government's strategy to modernize the sector and solve the instability caused by the growth of renewable sources.
“We will hold the first battery auction in December of this year,” Silveira said during a public hearing at the Chamber of Deputies’ Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee.
The minister highlighted that the measure is in line with the efforts of the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) to increase the safety and efficiency of SIN (National Interconnected System), especially in the face of challenges such as curtailment, which has caused losses to solar and wind power generators.
During the hearing, Silveira presented initiatives aimed at expanding the electricity grid, regulating new technologies, and promoting international cooperation in the energy sector. He also answered questions about Itaipu Binacional, exploration of the Equatorial Margin, programs like Luz para Todos (Light for All), and topics related to decarbonization and innovation.
"Our commitment is to ensure that every public policy in the energy sector is focused on the country's development and improving the lives of Brazilians, with safety and sustainability," the minister declared.
