O Brazil imported 5 GW in photovoltaic modules from China No. first quarter of this year, according to a report published by the research and consultancy company InfoLink Consulting.

According to the study, Brazilian acquisitions corresponded to around two thirds of deliveries carried out in the Americas (7,6 GW) in the period.

In addition to Brazil, other countries that stood out in the study and that showed growth in the import of solar panels in the Americas were Colombia and Chile.

“Mass interconnection applications before 14.300 Law, a new regulatory framework unfavorable to distributed generation projects that came into force in January 2023, should boost demand for modules in Brazil in the short term”, highlighted the InfoLink Consulting.

In all the last year, Brazil imported 17.9 GW em chinese photovoltaic modules, a growth of 58% in relation to the volume cataloged in 2021. The country was the second largest buyer of Chinese equipment in the year, behind only the Netherlands.

World market

Altogether, the China solar panel exports totaled 50,9 GW No. first quarter 2023 across the world, with 29,5 GW directed to Europe.

Imports from the European bloc were 77% higher compared to the same period in 2022, mainly due to the energy crisis caused by Russia's war in Ukraine.

Another factor that contributed to the increase in import volumes was the strategic stockpiling of Chinese manufacturers in Europe before the peak season.

In addition to the Netherlands, the transshipment hub in Europe, and Germany, where demand growth has always been robust, markets such as Spain and Poland are expected to drive solar demand growth on the continent in 2023.
