The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) has decided to postpone, for an indefinite period, the holding of auctions for the feasibility of new energy generation and transmission projects scheduled for 2020, according to an Ordinance published today, the 30th, in the DOU (Official Gazette of the Union). The measure was taken to combat the contagion resulting from the coronavirus, classified as a pandemic by the WHO (World Health Organization).
Among the postponed auctions are one scheduled for April 30 (A-4/A-5), which would contract gas and coal-fired power plants, and a bidding process for concessions for new transmission projects that would take place in June. Also on the list are the auctions known as A-4 and A-6, for new generation projects, and auctions to contract supply solutions for isolated systems.
It is worth noting that this is not a cancellation of the 2020 auctions in the electricity sector, but a postponement, given the confidence in the resumption of economic activity, as soon as the public health situation is normalized.
