More than 88 % da capacity installed na brazilian electrical matrix this year originate from solar and wind sources. According to the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), from January until now, the expansion of the installed capacity of the electrical matrix was 7 GW, of which 6,2 GW were solar (3 GW) and wind (3,2 GW).
This is largest increase in centralized solar generation capacity in history in Brazil. In 2022, for example, the increase for the entire year was 2,5 GW, lower than the 3 GW recorded to date.
Renewable energy
Still according to the Agency, there are already 18 thousand solar panels installed across the country, capable of producing a power of 10,3 GW.
It is important to emphasize that this amount does not consider distributed micro and minigeneration – systems installed in homes, businesses, factories or small plants connected directly to the distribution concessionaire network.
Regarding other renewable energy sources, the SIN (National Interconnected System) records the presence of 954 wind turbines, representing 10,3 GW in nominal values.
The country's hydraulic potential is also widely known. The 1.351 hydroelectric plants currently represent 56,17% of capacity, with a power of 109,8 GW. Furthermore, biomass is one of the sources used by Brazil and accounts for 16,7 GW, in 634 plants.
Investments for renewable energy
As reported by Canal Solar, the power generation sector must be boosted by the new PAC (Growth Acceleration Program).
In total, there will be R$73,1 billion in investments in energy generation projects, with R$64,8 billion allocated to renewable energy sources.
As photovoltaic power plants will account for 8,5 GW, more than half of the energy generation foreseen by the new PAC. The expected investment value for this modality is $ 41,5 billion.
Wind energy generation will receive R$22 billion, with 120 projects. The winds will be responsible for adding 5,2 GW to the electrical system. 20 new small hydroelectric plants have been confirmed at a cost of R$1,3 billion.
