O cost price of the photovoltaic modules in Brazil registered 20% drop in Januaryo this year compared to the same period last year. This is what one points out study released this Friday morning (28), by greener.
According to the research and consultancy company, the value cost of solar panels fell from R$1,79 to R$1,43 per watt-peak between the two months analyzed. The reduction was motivated by the dollar devaluation and reduction in freight costs.
While the value of american currency in relation to the real suffered a devaluation of 40 cents from one year to the next (from R$ 5,50 to R$ 5,10), the percentage charged for import of solar modules in the Brazilian market fell from 11% to 2% in the same period.
Despite the reduction, the numbers remain above those seen months before the arrival of the pandemic. In January 2020, the cost of photovoltaic modules in Brazil was R$0,96 per watt-peak.
Ao Canal Solar, Wladimir Janousek, general director of JCS Consultoria e Serviços and specialist in the international market, analyzed that the cost of photovoltaic modules is expected to continue to fall.
“We see a very promising scenario, with the reestablishment of the polysilicon chain taking place in China. All that price pressure movement that we have had in recent years is in a downward movement and with a very positive view that current capacity is more than enough to meet global demand”, he commented.

The executive draws attention, however, that the values per watt-peak brought by the Greener study have the reference price for monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic modules using PERC technology.
“When we look at other technologies, where demand is growing in Brazil, we can bet that TOPCon, N-Type and HJT (heterojunction) will increase their import volume for the second half of the year. We are talking about technologies with higher prices. So, it is important to point out that this study price is for monocrystalline PERC silicon and does not include new technologies,” he concluded.
