Centralized solar power generation (CG) surpassed the 20 GW mark of operational capacity in Brazil at the end of this year, according to updated data from [source missing]. ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).
Unlike distributed generation (DG), which is installed on the rooftops of residences, businesses, and industries, this modality consists of large solar power plants connected directly to the transmission system.
Among the states with the largest operational capacity in centralized solar power plants, Minas Gerais leads with 8,15 GW, followed by Bahia (2,67 GW) and Piauí (2,40 GW). In total, the country already has more than 18,6 solar projects in operation in this segment.
The growth of this type of energy in Brazil is recent: until 2017, large photovoltaic plants practically did not contribute to the electricity grid. Today, in addition to the projects already in operation, the ANEEL It has 4,76 GW under construction and another 105,1 GW of granted capacity, which is still awaiting implementation.
Top 10 states with the highest volume of operating power in the segment:
-
Minas Gerais - 8,15 GW (40,66%)
-
Bahia - 2,67 GW (13,32%)
-
Piaui - 2,40 GW (11,98%)
-
Ceará - 1,78 GW (8,91%)
- Rio Grande do Norte - 1,52 GW (7,61%)
-
Pernambuco - 1,33 GW (6,66%)
-
São Paulo - 1,21 GW (6,08%)
-
Paraíba - 0,71 GW (3,56%)
-
Rio Grande do Sul - 0,49 GW (0,24%)
-
Mato Grosso - 0,28 GW (0,14%)
Despite growth, curtailment exposes bottlenecks.
Despite its rapid expansion, GC's progress has been accompanied by operational challenges. By 2025, 20,6% of all available solar and wind energy in the country will have gone unused due to generation cuts – a phenomenon known as curtailment.
According to a survey by Volt Robotics, in economic terms, all of this Unspent energy represented losses exceeding R$ 6 billion. throughout the year, putting pressure on the profitability of the ventures.
New complex begins operations in São Paulo.
This Monday (29), the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) reported that the Novo Oriente Photovoltaic Complex, located in Ilha Solteira (SP), has fully entered commercial operation with the activation of the park's last plant.
The complex comprises six solar power plants, totaling 254,50 MW of installed capacity, distributed across 82 generating units. The project received an estimated investment of R$ 1,22 billion and is part of the portfolio of projects of the New PAC (Growth Acceleration Program).
The power plants fall under the REIDI (Special Incentive Regime for Infrastructure Development), which grants tax benefits to strategic projects for the electricity sector.
