The flexibility and availability of clean energy have made solar sources an ally of the armed forces. During Operation Guararapes, in an ongoing training exercise at the Northeast Military Command, the Brazilian Army tested its Field Energy Module (MEC) prototype for the first time under operational conditions.
The small photovoltaic system, developed by the Army's Engineering and Construction Department, has the autonomy to serve several electrical equipment simultaneously, both at 127 V and 220 V voltage and does not require connection to the utility's power supply.
According to the Army, the initiative aimed to allow the definition of technical operationalization and performance criteria regarding the generation and storage of photovoltaic energy in military operations, thus seeking to minimize environmental impacts during the use of troops.
Operation Guararapes is the largest training exercise in the Northeast and promises to be a milestone in the history of Brazilian military operations. The main objective is to improve the skills and strategies of the Brazilian armed forces.
