Federal deputy Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ) filed a class action lawsuit this week in the Federal Court of Rio de Janeiro against the decision of ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) which authorized an increase of up to 15,46% in electricity bills for consumers in the state.

The increase is equivalent to more than three times the accumulated inflation in a year, which was less than 4,5%. "Enough of this robbery," the legislator wrote on social media, also describing the adjustment as a "punch in the gut for the consumer."

The congressman argues that the increases in electricity bills impose an "excessive burden on consumers' pockets in a context of significantly lower inflation." In addition to the legal action, the congressman reported that he also launched a petition against the tariff increase.

Adjustment approved

Last Tuesday, the ANEEL authorized a readjustment with an average effect of 15,46% for consumers of Enel Rio, a concessionaire that serves approximately 2,79 million consumer units in 66 cities in the state.

The local authority argued that the approved rates were "impacted by financial components of the current and previous tariff process, in addition to costs related to sector charges and expenses for energy distribution and purchase."

On the same day, the Agency also approved an annual adjustment with an average effect of 8,59% for consumers of Light SA, which serves more than 3,96 million customers in 31 municipalities in Rio de Janeiro state, including the capital. The main factors that pressured the adjustments were the costs related to sector charges.

In his defense, the ANEEL It was reported that the tariff process was followed. "After regular instruction in the technical areas, a director-rapporteur was selected by lot, and the collegiate body discussed and deliberated in a public meeting, according to the schedule stipulated in the concession contracts."

A ANEEL is nothing more than one of the Organs (a
(Agency) of the Federal Government, that is, it does NOT allow adjustments to the tariff without DIRECT approval from the Presidency of the Republic (Lule and the Minister of Mines and Energy).
Now, as we're on the eve of the election, this demagogic "saint" comes along, playing cheap politics! Believing the people are fools!! Nobody can remove the president of the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) who was appointed by the PT (Workers' Party). What's strange is that the Institute reports low inflation while product prices have doubled in the market and fuel prices are sky-high…

Representative Lindbergh Faria should be concerned about the benefits that the Lula government distributes to stay in power; it's rampant spending that is increasingly suffocating the worker.

This is an outrageous increase; the kittens will get even more expensive. We can't foot the bill for those who don't pay. Nobody got a 15% salary raise. Shame on you! Greed is terrible.

I find the increase in electricity prices absolutely absurd! Companies that do nothing to guarantee good service, that don't care about maintenance or investment, but only about their own pockets!!
