The opening of the free market to all high voltage consumers (Group A) has the potential to attract 72 thousand small and medium-sized companies, such as industries, service networks and retail, according to the latest survey carried out by CCEE (Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber).
According to Ordinance 50/2022 of the Ministry of Mines and Energy, as of January 2024, all consumers in group A will be eligible to migrate to the free energy market. “Currently, there are 202 thousand consumption points connected to high voltage. Of this total, according to CCEE estimates, 165 thousand units will still be in the regulated market at the end of 2023”, informed the Chamber.
“Among these loads, we project that by the end of 2023, 93 thousand will benefit from the distributed micro and minigeneration model, which has the possibility of migrating, but should have little economic viability to make this change. Therefore, there are 72 thousand factories, offices and commercial establishments with the potential to join the free segment from January next year”, they pointed out.
For Talita Porto, vice-president of the CCEE Board of Directors, this stage of continuous opening of the free environment should generate opportunities not only for consumers, but also for traders, with the generation of new business. “The Brazilian electricity sector should become more competitive and society only has to gain from this”.
