Chinese manufacturer Sofar, a manufacturer of photovoltaic inverters and energy storage solutions, has completed its participation in one of China's largest floating solar projects.
Located in Cangzhou, Hebei province, the 50 MW project combines power generation and fish farming in the same area, a model known as “Fishery-Solar Complementary”.
The project was developed by Cangzhou Julong Solar Co. and has been connected to the grid since September. According to Sofar, the plant is expected to generate 85,3 million kWh per year, enough to power 128 homes, while also avoiding the emission of 64 tons of CO₂.
The system utilizes 157 320 kW inverters with 99,05% efficiency and advanced corrosion protection. The equipment is designed to withstand high-humidity environments and continuous operation on floating platforms.
According to Sofa, the model offers a double economic return, optimizing water use and reducing operating costs. The company sees cross-sector integration as a long-term strategy to accelerate the energy transition and promote more sustainable growth in the country.
The project is also part of a broader move by China to explore water resources as an alternative to agricultural land use, contributing to its goal of carbon neutrality by 2060.
"Cangzhou has become a living laboratory of energy innovation and sustainability," the company said in a statement. "While fish swim beneath the panels, our technology delivers the concept of 'one kilowatt-hour, two benefits,'" it added.
With this initiative, Sofar reinforces its position among the main solar technology players in Asia and expands its presence in storage projects e floating energy, sectors that are expected to grow exponentially in the coming years.
About Sofar
In 2024, Sofar will celebrate the milestone of half a million inverters sold in Brazil, consolidating itself as one of the global leaders in photovoltaic solutions and energy storage.
In Brazil, the company has more than 20 partner distributors and an office with a showroom on Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo. This space not only offers practical training, but also presents new technologies to partners and customers, reinforcing the manufacturer's commitment to innovation and continuous development in the sector.
