The advancement of data center infrastructure in Brazil — an energy-intensive activity increasingly associated with the growth of cloud computing and artificial intelligence — motivated a new investment by Modular Data Centers with support from BNDES (Brazilian Development Bank).
The project envisions the development of a modular, multi-user data center with high electrical and thermal capacity, designed to serve large clients and high-density computing workloads.
The unit will have an initial IT capacity of 12 MW, with a scalable architecture prepared for vertical expansion, and can be stacked up to three levels.
The model includes independent power, climate control, and redundancy systems, features considered essential to ensure reliability in critical digital operations.
The proposal also anticipates a reduction of over 50% in deployment time compared to conventional data centers, resulting from the use of prefabricated industrial modules.
The growth of this type of infrastructure is occurring within a context of rapid technological transformation, in which energy availability, operational efficiency, and shorter delivery times have become key factors for the sector's competitiveness.
Financing
To make the project viable, the BNDES The Brazilian government approved financing of R$ 232,5 million for Modular Data Centers. The operation combines the "More Innovation" line, focused on technological development, and the "Machines and Services" line, aimed at strengthening the national production of equipment.
The funds will be used to create intellectual property, acquire machinery, services and materials, and expand the company's industrial capacity.
According to the bank, the support is aligned with the industrial policy strategy aimed at strengthening the national production base and increasing competitiveness in sectors of high technological complexity.
The initiative seeks to expand local engineering capacity and stimulate long-term investments related to digital transformation.
The new contract adds to the nearly R$400 million already released to Modular's clients through Finame lines of credit, used for the acquisition of equipment manufactured by the company, with financing terms of up to seven years.
International expansion
With its industrial headquarters in Santana de Parnaíba (SP), Modular maintains three production units totaling more than 60 square meters of factory space. The company employs approximately one thousand professionals, including more than 90 engineers dedicated to research and development.
Specializing in the manufacture of custom-built modular data centers, the company has already delivered more than 80 units in operation in Brazil and maintains projects in six Latin American countries, with an IT capacity exceeding 35 MW.
With the new funding, the company intends to advance projects focused on cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and large-scale processing, segments that increasingly demand more energy, reliability, and speed of deployment—factors that place data centers at the center of the country's industrial and energy agenda.
