Public schools in Espírito Santo gained something beyond sustainable: EDP, the state's electricity distributor, installed photovoltaic panels in 19 educational institutions.
In total, 190 solar modules were installed, including ten photovoltaic panels for each school, with a capacity to generate 102.600 kWh/year. Furthermore, it should contribute to the reduction of 61,75 tons of CO2 per year and generate savings of around R$90 per year. System installations began in December 2018 and were completed in June this year.
The initiative involved an investment of around R$600 and is part of the “Good Energy in Schools” project which, in addition to implementing the solar energy generation system, brings knowledge and educational activities to schools about the use safe and efficient use of electrical energy.
The project – developed through the distributor’s PEE (Energy Efficiency Program) and regulated by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) – has been carried out since 2011, totaling an investment of more than R$ 10 million.
“Making better use of the resources we have available is fundamental to the sustainability of the planet. Therefore, EDP invests in several energy efficiency actions, including an educational initiative to disseminate the concepts of rational energy use. Furthermore, we promote distributed generation with the installation of solar panels in public educational institutions”, highlighted Alexandre Rodello, EDP manager.
“Good Energy in Schools” has already benefited 987 state and municipal educational institutions, training around 3.849 educators and covering more than 365 thousand students in 40 municipalities in the state.
