The strike by workers at EPE (Empresa de Pesquisa Energética), which had been dragging on since October, was officially ended this Thursday (4), after the category's assembly approved the offer presented by the state-owned company during a mediation hearing conducted by the Regional Labor Court of the 1st Region.

According to the employees, the main motivation for the movement was dissatisfaction with the company's initial proposal, which was considered insufficient to compensate for wage losses and expand benefits.

The mobilizations began with sporadic work stoppages, evolved in October into a two-day strike, and culminated in November with the decision for an indefinite strike.

O The movement faced its peak of tension earlier this week., when the EPE management applied the automatic deduction for the days not worked as early as December 1st.

The decision, communicated without prior notice, provoked a strong reaction among the workers, who classified the measure as a "breakdown of dialogue" and denounced being surprised while mediation at the TRT-1 (Regional Labor Court of the 1st Region) was still underway.

As published by Canal Solar, representatives of the category stated that the decision represented "a breakdown of the conciliatory environment," generating legal uncertainty and deepening the strain between the parties.

The state-owned company's management, on the other hand, argued that the procedure followed the understanding of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), according to which days off during a public service strike must be deducted from pay, unless a formal compensation agreement is reached.

Even with the setback in the negotiation climate, the mediator from TRT-1 requested that the category temporarily suspend the movement to enable an agreement, which was accepted at the end of November.

As a result, The progress of the negotiations allowed for the construction of a new proposal that was put to a vote and approved this Thursday (4).

According to a statement from EPE, the agreement approved by the workers includes salary and benefit adjustments, the creation of a Disability Assistance program, and an expansion of the Childcare Assistance program.

The package also includes the payment of most of the strike days, with limited compensation, in addition to retroactive payment of economic clauses — subject to analysis by SEST — and reimbursement of discounts made.
