O Electricity consumption in Brazil rose for the sixth consecutive month, Shutting down October with one demand of 70.047 average MW – a volume 6,2% higher compared to the same period last year.

The data are from the Fortnightly InfoMercado Newsletter, CCEE (Electricity Trading Chamber), which associates the increase with heat which has caused a greater use of fans and air conditioning.

The biggest advance observed by CCEE was in the regulated market, where the residential consumers and Small business. The segment used 44.448 average MW last month, a growth of 7,6% year-on-year.

Os remaining 25.599 average MW were provided to the Free Energy Market, which supplies industry and large companies. In this environment, the increase was 3,8% compared to the same period last year.

In the Free Energy Market, the CCEE monitors energy consumption in 15 branches of economic activity, with the greatest advances recorded in the sectors of metallic mineral extraction (10,4%), commerce (9,4%), beverages (8,5 .7,2%), services (6,7) and food (XNUMX%).

Only four sectors registered lower demand: textiles (-0,2%), sanitation (-1,0%), telecommunications (-2,5%) and vehicles (-4,7%).

Power generation

As hydroelectric plants – which are still the country’s main source of energy – supplied almost 50.000 average MW for the SIN (National Interconnected System), a volume 10,6% higher compared to the same period last year.

Os wind farmss produced more than 13.000 average MW (advance of 1,4%), while the solar farms generated more than 2.800 average MW to 51,9% growth.

According to the CCEE, the performance of these three energy sources contributed to a 16,4% reduction in the share of thermoelectric plants, used at the most critical moments in the sector to guarantee supply to the population.
