Around 49% of the measures foreseen in the Strategic Agenda for Electricity 2026 have already been implemented by the end of the first quarter of this year. This data is included in the Monitoring Report, released last Friday (30) by the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy).
According to the document, the monitoring encompasses 27 structured preventive actions aimed at mitigating operational risks, increasing the resilience of the national electricity system, and ensuring electricity supply in different operating scenarios.
According to the report, some of the actions already completed are directly linked to strengthening national energy security, focusing on expanding supply and improving the reliability of the system.
Among the main advances, according to the document, is the enabling of the operation of the Jirau Hydroelectric Plant at the 90-meter elevation.
According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), this measure will allow the incorporation of up to 236,5 MW of average generation into the National Interconnected System (SIN), contributing to the balance between energy supply and demand.
Another highlight mentioned in the report was the holding of the 2026 Capacity Reserve Auctions, considered strategic for the planning of the electrical system.
According to the ministry, the auctions enable the contracting of thermoelectric power plants and the expansion of hydroelectric projects, guaranteeing complementary sources of generation and reinforcing the operational reliability of the system.
Second Quarter Agenda
For the second quarter, the agenda foresees the continuation of actions focused on expanding energy security and the operational flexibility of the system.
Among the measures planned are holding reserve capacity auctions focused on storage, extending rules that allow greater flexibility in the operation of thermoelectric plants, and evaluating the resumption of daylight saving time in 2026.
Initiatives are also planned to increase the availability of thermal power plants on the market, in addition to analyzing measures such as the early dispatch of thermal plants and the importation of energy.
The plan also includes studies focused on integrating gas pipelines and the thermoelectric power plant in the Northern region, with the aim of strengthening the energy infrastructure and increasing the security of the system.
