Eletrobras has partnered with C3 AI to apply artificial intelligence to the management of its transmission network, focusing on real-time monitoring and rapid troubleshooting. the companies told Reuters.
The C3 AI Grid Intelligence system, which has been in operation in ten substations since last year, will now be expanded to all of the company's transmission assets — responsible for 74 kilometers of lines, equivalent to 37% of the SIN (National Interconnected System).
Although the contract values have not been disclosed, the initiative comes at a time when investments in electricity grids are gaining momentum globally, whether to deal with the increased complexity of energy matrices or in response to extreme climate risks and events that threaten the stability of the system.
In this scenario, the focus on AI aims to increase infrastructure resilience. According to Eletrobras, C3 AI's solution can identify alarms and correlate incidents, pinpoint affected equipment, and support decision-making in less than ten seconds—a process that could previously take minutes to hours.
In addition to monitoring, the electrical company also began using another C3 AI tool to optimize the production of operational reports, freeing up technicians for higher-value-added activities.
"We are modernizing critical network monitoring processes, which allows us to respond to incidents more effectively and quickly, ensuring system stability and availability," said Pablo Flores, Executive Manager of Protection, Automation and Control of Operating Systems at Eletrobras.
