With investments totaling more than R$ 4,4 million, the distributors Enel São Paulo and EDP announced, this week, separately two solar energy projects aimed at public schools and social organizations in the states of São Paulo, Espírito Santo and Paraná.
On one hand, Enel São Paulo has begun installing photovoltaic systems in 18 state schools, in partnership with Seduc-SP (São Paulo State Department of Education) and Semil (Department of Environment, Infrastructure and Logistics), with investments of R$ 3,8 million. On the other hand, EDP announced installations in 19 social organizations, with an investment exceeding R$ 650.
state schools
Enel São Paulo's photovoltaic plants will have the capacity to fully supply the electricity demand of each school. The surplus generation could be offset by other units of Seduc-SP, with the potential to benefit an additional 18 schools. The estimated annual production is 1,91 GWh, a volume equivalent to the consumption of more than 630 homes.
The schools included in the program are located in municipalities within Enel's concession area, including the city of São Paulo, as well as Jandira, Embu das Artes, Taboão da Serra, Itapevi, Mauá, and Santo André. In addition to reducing electricity costs and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions, the initiative seeks to strengthen the role of schools as environments for environmental education, bringing students and teachers closer to the practice of using renewable energy sources.
According to Enel, the project is made possible through the concessionaire's CPP (Public Call for Projects) and is part of the Energy Efficiency Program, regulated by... ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), which encourages the modernization of infrastructure and the reduction of energy waste in public institutions.
Social organizations
EDP's initiative is part of the Solar Social program, which selected 19 social organizations from 40 submitted projects. These organizations will receive photovoltaic systems of up to 5 kWp, focusing on reducing electricity costs and strengthening their social activities.
As stipulated in the call for proposals, the savings generated on the electricity bill must be reinvested in social initiatives, thus amplifying the project's positive impact. “The selection of these projects reinforces our commitment to a just and inclusive energy transition, while also strengthening the work of local organizations that play a key role within communities,” says Dominic Schmal, ESG Director at EDP in South America.
In addition to the installation of solar panels, the selected entities will receive training in energy efficiency, responsible energy consumption, and maintenance of photovoltaic systems. The implementation of the systems is scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
The selection process considered criteria such as governance, management capacity, monitoring and accountability, as well as alignment with EDP's strategic pillars — Education for the Future and Energy of Tomorrow. The Solar Social call for proposals complements other company initiatives, such as Energia Solidária, integrated into the global YES program. You Empower Society).
