At least three power outages recorded throughout the early hours of Wednesday (17) affected the operation of Salgado Filho International Airport, in Porto Alegre (RS), causing flight delays and triggering contingency plans.

According to Fraport, the concessionaire that manages the terminal, a fault was identified in one of the airport's substations, which caused an interruption in the electricity supply to the passenger terminal at around 3:25 am.

Due to the incident, the generators began to partially take over the electrical load, although sporadic outages were recorded until 5:10 am. In total, eight takeoffs were delayed due to the unstable power supply.

Operations at Porto Alegre Airport remained supported by generators until 7:28 AM, when the power supply from the grid was restored. In a statement, Fraport reported that maintenance teams are continuing to work to identify the causes of the failure.

The concessionaire also emphasized that there were no flight cancellations as a result of the incident and advised affected passengers to check the status of their flights directly with the airlines.

Fraport Note

"During the early hours of this Wednesday (12/17), a fault was identified in one of the airport's substations, which caused a power outage in the passenger terminal at around 3:25 am. The generators partially took over the power load, with some occasional outages, until 5:10 am."

The operation continued using generators until 7:28 AM, when mains power was restored. Maintenance teams are working to identify the causes of the failure. During this period, 8 takeoffs were delayed.

There were no flight cancellations due to the power outage. We advise affected passengers to check their flight status and contact their airlines for more information.
