Fortaleza Metro is reaping the benefits of investing in its own renewable energy generation. After almost two years in operation, the solar panels installed at the Juscelino Kubitschek and Padre Cícero stations provide monthly savings of R$20,2 thousand, totaling R$242 thousand in one year.
According to the Ceará State Government, the photovoltaic system, in operation since December 2022, has 882 solar modules on the roofs of the two stations, with the capacity to generate 42 thousand kWh per month. In addition, another 662 modules were installed at the Vila União Maintenance Center and will soon come into operation.
Ceará has invested heavily in renewable energy, not only to reduce the environmental impact of public services, but also to increase efficiency in electricity spending.
Last Wednesday (9/11), the Seinfra (Infrastructure Secretariat) announced a partnership with energy supplier EDP to migrate part of the public equipment to the Free Energy Market. The Ceará Events Center and the Forensic Expertise headquarters were the first to operate in this mode of purchasing electricity.
According to Seinfra, this change will result in 20% savings on electricity bills, in addition to the advantage of consuming clean and sustainable energy.
Pernambuco reaches 1 GW of installed distributed generation capacity
In addition to the environmental benefits, state agencies will be protected from fluctuations in tariff flags, since the price of energy contracted with EDP is fixed during the contract period, ensuring budgetary predictability.
“All energy supplied under this contract will come from renewable sources, ensuring that more than 100 GW/h of annual consumption will be met by these clean sources,” highlights Ceará’s Infrastructure Secretary, Hélio Winston Leitão.
In the coming months, more public facilities are expected to transition to the Free Energy Market. The migration will be gradual, prioritizing units with high energy consumption. “These are facilities that operate intensively and, therefore, provide an immediate impact on cost reduction,” adds Leitão.
