The Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB)The company responsible for managing the Brazilian National Team Training Center avoided the emission of 108,3 tons of CO₂ in the first year after migrating to the free energy market.

According to the organization, the volume corresponds to the emissions generated by approximately 2.317 air trips between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, highlighting the impact of adopting renewable energy in large sports facilities.

Neoenergia is providing 100% renewable electricity to the main training center for Brazilian Olympic sports. The contract, valid until 2028, aims to prevent the emission of more than 360 tons of CO₂ over its duration, reinforcing the COB's (Brazilian Olympic Committee) strategy of decarbonizing its operations.

According to the company, the initiative will allow the Brazilian Olympic Committee to arrive at the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028 with neutrality in indirect emissions related to electricity consumption, known as Scope 2 emissions.

The project reflects a trend observed among companies and institutions that have migrated to the free energy market in search of greater competitiveness, cost predictability, and a reduced carbon footprint.

In this contracting environment, consumers can choose their suppliers and negotiate commercial terms according to their needs, as well as opt for energy from renewable sources such as wind, solar, hydroelectric and biomass.

In addition to the environmental benefits, migrating to the free market reinforces COB's sustainability strategy, which has been expanding initiatives aimed at reducing the environmental impact of its activities.

The initiative is also part of Sports for Nature (S4N). The Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) joined the commitment in 2023, along with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).
