Brazil has surpassed the mark of 44 GW of installed solar power capacity in the distributed generation (DG) segment, according to updated data from... ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) this Friday (13).
The new milestone was reached approximately one year after the country achieved 39 GW of operational capacity in February 2025. Currently, Brazil has nearly 4 million photovoltaic systems connected to the grid, benefiting more than 7 million consumer units.
Residential properties account for the largest share of installed capacity, with 21,9 GW. This is followed by systems installed in commercial establishments (12,2 GW), rural properties (5,8 GW), and industrial units (3,2 GW).
Among the states, São Paulo and Minas Gerais lead the national ranking in installed capacity and number of connections. The municipalities of São Paulo have a combined total of more than 6,3 GW and 664 systems, while Minas Gerais registers 5,59 GW distributed across approximately 412 installations.
Paraná ranks third in installed capacity, even with fewer systems than Rio Grande do Sul. In Paraná, there are already more than 4 GW distributed across approximately 305 power plants, indicating larger-scale distributed solar generation projects. Rio Grande do Sul, on the other hand, has accumulated 3,6 GW from approximately 394 systems.
According to the latest monthly bulletin from ABSOLAR According to the Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association, accumulated investments in distributed solar generation exceed R$ 284 billion since the beginning of the expansion of this energy source in the country. The segment has also been responsible for the creation of more than 1,9 million jobs and the reduction of approximately 104 million tons of CO₂.
Centralized generation approaches 22 GW.
While distributed generation advances, the centralized generation (CG) model, comprised of large solar power plants, is also approaching a new milestone. Currently, Brazil has 21,94 GW of operational capacity in this segment.
In total, there are more than 18,6 photovoltaic projects in commercial operation. Furthermore, an additional 20,9 GW is expected to be added in the coming years, even in the face of recent challenges related to... curtailment (generation cuts).
