Gerdau has submitted a proposal to acquire the entirety of the stake that Celesc still holds in the Dona Francisca Energética hydroelectric plant, equivalent to 23,03% of the project.
The value considered in the negotiation was R$ 150 million, and the offer has already been accepted. Located on the Jacuí River in Rio Grande do Sul, the plant has an installed capacity of 125 MW and an estimated average production of 72,5 MW over time.
Currently, Gerdau owns 53,94% of the plant, which corresponds to approximately 35,6 MW on average. With the completion of the operation, the company's stake should rise to 76,97%, concentrating approximately 50 MW on average of available energy.
Payment will be made in cash, using the company's own funds, and the transaction is still subject to approval by CADE (Administrative Council for Economic Defense) – an agency linked to the Ministry of Justice, which acts to prevent and repress abuses of economic power, guaranteeing free competition and preventing the formation of cartels.
Expansion in renewable energy
This move reinforces Gerdau's strategy of expanding its operations in the energy sector. In recent years, the company has invested in increasing the share of renewable sources in its energy mix.
The company already has a significant portfolio of hydroelectric plants and small hydroelectric plants (PCHs), mainly used to supply its industrial operations.
In addition to hydroelectric generation, the company has also been making progress in contracting renewable energy through agreements in the Free Energy Market, seeking greater cost predictability and reduced emissions.
