Between the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, Inmetro (National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology) carried out a series of unprecedented inspections in the country aimed at combating the presence of modules. fake power in the solar energy sector.
The operation was prompted by complaints registered with the organization's ombudsman and covered several states, including Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, and Goiás. The objective was to assess the quality and compliance of products available on the market.
The topic was widely publicized and closely followed by Canal Solar, which published several reports on the operations conducted by the local authority.
During the operations, the institute collected photovoltaic modules from different brands and sent the samples for laboratory testing. The inspections identified equipment with significantly lower power output than that declared by the manufacturers.
Following the initial results, Inmetro intensified inspections of equipment related to the solar energy sector. However, the issue lost momentum after the first quarter of last year, and little official information about the progress of the operation was released by the agency.
This week, almost a year after the first actions, the Canal Solar contacted Inmetro to understand the current status of the investigations. In response to the request, the agency confirmed that inspection activities will be intensified throughout 2026.
According to Inmetro, the Conformity Assessment Directorate, through its Inspection Division and its Product Safety Unit, is making progress in implementing improved procedures for testing photovoltaic modules.
According to the regulatory body, there have been methodological improvements and an expansion of the technical team, which will allow the resumption of testing in 2026, along with advancements in laboratory infrastructure and routine operations. "Operations are already scheduled in the annual calendar," states Inmetro.
In 2025, the collections carried out involved more than 20 brands, whose samples remain under the custody of the Product Safety Center, awaiting the execution of the tests.
"The processes related to the trademarks already tested are still underway and remain confidential, since there has not yet been a final judgment, making it impossible to disclose information at this time," the agency reports.
