The Brazilian solar energy sector enters 2026 in a moment of transition, marked by structural challenges and a slowdown in the pace of growth after years of strong expansion.
In this context, events like Intersolar Nordeste 2026 gain relevance by bringing together experts, companies, and organizations to discuss the future of the sector in the country, especially regarding topics such as distributed generation, grid limitations, and the advancement of energy storage.
In an interview, lawyer and expert in electricity sector regulation, Bárbara Rubim, CEO of Bright Strategies, anticipates the main points that will be addressed in her participation in the congress and analyzes the market outlook for this year.
What will be the topics of the panel you will be participating in at Intersolar Nordeste?
In my panel at Intersolar Nordeste 2026, we will discuss the perspectives and challenges for the expansion of solar energy, especially in the form of micro and mini-distributed generation in the country. We will address topics such as curtailment, flow reversal, and the expansion of micro and mini-generation projects without authorization, particularly after the opening of public consultation by [the relevant authority/organization]. ANEEL about this subject.

We will also discuss energy storage as a possible solution to these challenges. The idea is to acknowledge the difficulties faced by the massive growth of solar energy in the last decade, but also to point out solutions, highlighting the role of batteries, both in distributed systems and in centralized solutions connected to the transmission grid.
In recent years, industry events have gained relevance. What are your expectations for the congress as a whole?
I have no doubt that this congress will be a very important meeting point for the sector, bringing together the main players, associations and experts to discuss the future of solar energy, not only in the Northeast, but in Brazil as a whole.
2026 is a challenging year for the sector, mainly due to limitations on the expansion of the source. Having a space that allows for a technical, lucid, and balanced debate is essential for the segment to continue advancing in the country.
In terms of the impact on the renewable energy market, what is your projection until the end of 2026?
2026 is expected to be a year of challenges and greater stability in the growth of the solar sector. The projection indicates growth similar to that of 2025, but lower than that recorded in 2024.
This reflects a natural maturation of the market. The sector experienced a phase of exponential growth between 2014 and 2024 and now tends to operate at a more stable level.
The main challenges today are related to infrastructure and access to the distribution network. In the coming years, integrating new technologies, especially hybrid systems with energy storage, will be crucial. Discussions about a regulatory framework for batteries will also be essential to unlock the growth potential of solar energy in Brazil.
