With the recent departure of Carlos Evangelista, executive Luiz Fernando Leone Vianna assumes the interim presidency of ABGD (Brazilian Association of Distributed Generation), in a move that occurs after the institutional consolidation of the entity, which completes a decade of activity in the Brazilian electricity sector.
Vianna combines his new role with the vice-presidency of the ABGD Council and arrives at the position with an extensive career in the energy sector. He currently also holds the position of Institutional and Regulatory Vice President of the Delta Energia Group.
Throughout his career, Vianna held positions in strategic companies and institutions in the electricity sector. These included the presidency of Copel (Companhia Paranaense de Energia), the Brazilian general directorate of Itaipu Binacional, and the presidency of Apine (Associação Brasileira dos Produtores Independentes de Energia Elétrica).
This history supports ABGD's expectation of maintaining a technical and well-coordinated approach during a time of sensitive debates regarding distributed generation (DG). According to the executive, the organization's agenda for this cycle is focused on improving the regulatory environment. Strengthening dialogue with public and private stakeholders also appears as a priority.
Consolidation
The appointment comes at a symbolic time for the association. In 2025, ABGD will have completed ten years of operation, consolidating itself as one of the main representatives of the distributed generation segment in Brazil. Throughout this journey, the organization has actively participated in regulatory debates and the institutional coordination of the sector, advocating for a more decentralized and sustainable energy model.
Data cited by the association indicates the scale reached by the segment in the country: there are already more than 44 GW of installed capacity, with approximately 3,9 million systems in operation and around 21 million Brazilians benefiting.
The governance of ABGD for the 2026/2027 biennium remains under the leadership of the Board chaired by José da Costa Carvalho Neto, an executive with experience at companies such as Eletrobras and Cemig, in addition to involvement in private initiatives in the field of renewable energy. The Deliberative Council is composed of companies representing the distributed generation chain, responsible for contributing to the definition of the entity's strategic guidelines.
