Macaé Airport (RJ), which is managed by Zurich Airport Brasil, inaugurated its own photovoltaic solar power plant on Tuesday afternoon (10) and began operating with 100% clean energy, becoming the first airport in the country to reach this milestone.
With an investment of R$ 2,94 million, the project features 1.440 photovoltaic panels and an installed capacity of 1 MW, a volume sufficient to fully supply the energy demand of the airport complex.
The new power plant is part of a recent cycle of modernization of the airport's infrastructure, which also received approximately R$ 220 million in investment for the construction of a new runway, inaugurated in June of last year.
The installation of the photovoltaic system was carried out by WSO Solar, a company that also executes other projects at airports managed by Zurich Airport Brasil. The concessionaire has already announced that, in the second half of the year, it will inaugurate another solar power plant, this time at Natal International Airport (RN).

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the CEO of Zurich Airport Brazil, Ricardo Gesse, the CEO of Zurich Airport Latin America, Johann Gigl, as well as global executives from the group who came from Switzerland. The mayor of Macaé, Welberth Rezende, also participated in the event.
