The ONS (National Electric System Operator) projects inflows below the historical average until July 2026 and maintains heightened attention to storage levels in the SIN (National Interconnected System), with greater concern concentrated in the Southern subsystem.

According to the Operator, last month episodes of the ZCAS (South Atlantic Convergence Zone) favored rainfall in the North, Central-West and Southeast regions, especially in the basins of the Paranaíba, Grande and upper and middle São Francisco rivers, which recorded above-average rainfall.

Nevertheless, the ONS highlighted that the accumulated volume was not sufficient to offset the previous rainfall deficit, reinforcing the need for an operational policy focused on preserving water resources.

In this regard, the Operator stated that it continues to monitor the evolution of the rainy season and the hydrological and storage conditions, paying special attention to the Paraná River basin and the Southern region. Furthermore, it reported that measures should be maintained to enable the operation of the power plants in the Paraná River basin with minimized outflows.

“The ONS continues to coordinate with the members of the CMSE and sector agents, monitoring reservoir conditions and inflows. The Operator monitors the performance of the SIN and we are ready to adopt the necessary preventive measures in order to continue guaranteeing full electricity supply,” reiterates the ONS Operations Director, Christiano Vieira da Silva.

Inflow and storage projections until July 2026

Projections for water inflow between February and July 2026 remain below the Long-Term Average (LTA), according to the ONS (National System Operator). In the upper-level scenario, inflows reach 83% of the LTA; in the lower-level scenario, 55%.

The operator indicated that, if the optimistic scenario is confirmed, the energy stored in the Southeast/Central-West subsystem could end July 7,2 percentage points above the level recorded in the same period of 2025. In the less favorable scenario, however, storage could be 31,2 percentage points below that observed in the previous year.

For the National Interconnected System, projections indicate that, in the optimistic scenario, storage could be 4,7 percentage points higher than that recorded in July 2025. In the worst-case scenario, the index could be 26,2 percentage points lower.

Shutdown of thermal power plants in Roraima progresses.

During the meeting, the ONS (National System Operator) detailed the schedule for shutting down thermoelectric power plants in Roraima, structured in three stages and with completion scheduled for April 2026.

This measure is a direct consequence of the state's connection to the National Interconnected System, made possible by the energization of the Manaus–Boa Vista transmission line, completed in September 2025. With this connection, Roraima ceases to operate in isolation and significantly reduces its dependence on local thermal power generation.

“The interconnection reduces the use of thermal power plants and decreases CO₂ emissions. Among other perceived benefits are the control of the flow of lines serving the states of Amazonas and Roraima, with greater stability, which represents more energy and operational security,” stated the Operator.
