The Civil Police of Campinas (SP) dismantled, this Wednesday (11), a scheme of theft and receiving of electrical materials from a CPFL Paulista warehouse.
The criminal act caused losses exceeding R$ 155 to the distributor and compromised the safety of the electrical grid in the region. Two people were arrested during the operation.
The investigation revealed that some of the stolen materials were being used in an illegal electrical installation at a company in Vinhedo (SP).
At the scene, the person in charge of the establishment confessed to having hired the service using stolen equipment and was arrested on the spot for receiving stolen goods. After paying bail, he was released to await trial.
Based on information gathered at the scene, investigators identified the person responsible for carrying out the illegal installations. At addresses linked to the suspect, various pieces of equipment belonging exclusively to CPFL were found, such as energy meters and company uniforms.
In addition to the electrical equipment, the police seized a system used to "zero out" water meters belonging to Sanasa (Water and Sanitation Supply Company), demonstrating expertise in meter tampering.
The second suspect will face charges of electricity theft, aggravated receiving of stolen goods, participation in a criminal organization, and possession of counterfeit currency.
Operational risk and safety
In a statement, CPFL Paulista emphasized the seriousness of these incidents for the stability of the system and for public safety. The case remains under investigation to determine if there are others involved in the diversion of materials from official depots and in the execution of irregular technical services for third parties.
"In addition to causing losses to customers through power outages, theft of materials and energy poses a safety risk to everyone, as the improper handling of cables and equipment in the distribution network can cause serious, even fatal, accidents," the distributor pointed out.
