Piauí currently has one of the cleanest electricity grids in the country, and the state government intends to convert this competitive advantage into economic and industrial development. Currently, the state has 208 power plants in operation, with 99,75% of the generation coming from renewable sources.
The installed capacity of solar, wind, and hydroelectric power has already reached 9 GW. Domestic consumption, however, is around 1 GW. In practice, there is a significant surplus of clean energy available.
"The idea is to industrialize this surplus energy in a green way, with data centers, green hydrogen, and green steel, transforming energy capacity into economic development and job creation," says Governor Rafael Fonteles.
In the field of wind power generation, the main highlight is the Lagoa dos Ventos Wind Farm Complex, considered the largest in the region. Latin America, with 1 GW of installed capacity. In the solar energy sector, the São Gonçalo complex stands out, bringing together millions of photovoltaic panels and continuing to expand.
In addition to already established projects, new projects are advancing in the municipalities of Curral Novo do Piauí, Simões, Cristino Castro, Sebastião Leal, and Bertolínia, expanding the supply of renewable energy and reinforcing the state's role as an electricity exporter.
“The expansion of solar and wind farms has generated jobs, increased revenue, and strengthened energy infrastructure, in addition to positioning the state as a competitive destination for new industrial investments that demand clean energy,” highlights Kárita Allen, Director of Strategic Management at [Company Name]. Invest Piauí.
The challenge now is to convert surplus megawatts into structured production chains, attracting energy-intensive industries and consolidating Piauí as an energy transition hub in the Northeast.
