Powersafe aims to accelerate its presence in the Brazilian energy storage market by expanding its partnership with HDT (Huawei Digital Power).
The manufacturer plans to incorporate approximately 35 MWh into new projects by the end of 2026, expanding an agreement originally announced in March by Canal Solar and which is now taking on a new dimension, with the inclusion of more advanced technologies, digital platforms and a broader strategy for developing the local market.
The volume projected by the company is equivalent, according to its estimates, to supplying approximately 280 people, or more than 100 average Brazilian households.
This initiative comes at a time of growing expectation surrounding the consolidation of the national battery market, driven by recent regulatory advances and the prospects for contracting large-scale storage systems.
In addition to importing
Unlike the initial agreement, this new phase of the partnership incorporates a more comprehensive strategy for integrating BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) solutions in the country.
Regardless of the importation of the new generation of Huawei equipment, the agreement now includes digital monitoring platforms, intelligent energy management systems, and components aimed at the utility-scale, commercial, and industrial segments.
HDT, in turn, assumes a strategic role in structuring business, disseminating technical knowledge, and expanding access to the Chinese manufacturer's technologies in Latin America.
Powersafe states that it will be among the first companies to make these solutions available in the Brazilian market. The first batches are already part of its operational planning, with expected arrival in the country between the second half of June and the beginning of July.
Grid Forming and Artificial Intelligence
Among the key technologies being added to the company's portfolio are the Smart String and Grid Forming ESS systems, considered by the company to be some of the most significant developments in the global storage industry.
Equipment with a capacity of 241 kWh, equipped with operational monitoring based on artificial intelligence, will also be incorporated.
The systems include advancements in security protocols, increased storage capacity, and enhanced asset management capabilities.
One of the highlights is the Grid Forming technology, capable of providing synthetic inertia, voltage support, and advanced frequency control.
These features are highlighted as important in a scenario of increasing participation of variable renewable sources in the Brazilian electricity matrix.
The Smart String architecture, in turn, allows for the individualized management of modules and battery packs, increasing performance predictability, operational efficiency, and system safety standards.
Applications
The expectation is that the solutions will meet a wide variety of applications. These include large-scale solar and hybrid power plants, power grid reinforcement, substations, data centers, industries with high energy demand, isolated systems, microgrids, and critical infrastructure such as hospitals and telecommunications.
The equipment can also be used in projects focused on demand response, energy arbitrage, and the provision of ancillary services aimed at stabilizing the grid.
According to André Ribeiro, Renewables Manager at Powersafe, the solutions were designed to meet the growing demand for energy stability, digitalization of electrical infrastructure, and modernization of systems used by different consumer profiles.
Capacity
The partnership also incorporates a focus on technical training for the Brazilian market. This theme gained prominence with the Masterclass held in May, promoted by the companies, bringing together integrators, EPC contractors, investors, utilities, developers, and large energy consumers.
The meeting addressed topics such as security in BESS applications, artificial intelligence applied to energy management, new storage architectures, ancillary services, and the impacts of renewable energy expansion on grid stability.
The strategy also includes in-person training, technical workshops, certification programs, regional roadshows, technology demonstration centers, integration with universities, and international immersion missions.

The expansion of the agreement comes amid optimistic projections for energy storage in the country. Based on the Ten-Year Energy Plan 2035, Powersafe highlights estimates from EPE (Energy Research Company) according to which Brazil could install around 10 GW in storage solutions and demand response mechanisms in the coming years, generating investments exceeding R$ 200 billion.
In this context, the expansion of the partnership originally announced in March represents more than just strengthening a commercial relationship.
This signals an attempt at early positioning in a market that is beginning to move from the realm of expectations to a new phase of practical implementation, driven by recent regulations and the advancement of the energy storage agenda in the Brazilian electrical system.
