The problems involving power outages seem to have no end in Brazil, especially in Metropolitan region of Sao Paulo - what again recorded supply failures for the population in the morning Friday (16).

In all, 16 neighborhoods were left without electricity in the capital of São Paulo, in the West, South and Central zones of the city, in places such as Paraíso, Moema, Itaim Bibi, Brooklin and Butantã. Parts of the cities of Embu das Artes and Taboão da Serra were also affected.

A blackout also disrupted transport circulation. At 8:45 am, the city of São Paulo accumulated more than 270 km of slow roads.

On Avenida Paulista, agents from CET (Traffic Engineering Company) worked at intersections that were traffic lights off.

Some metro lines, such as 2-Green and 5-Lilac, were also impacted and needed to operate at reduced speed and longer stopping time on platforms. Passengers reported having overcrowding at stations through social networks.

In an official statement, the Enel, energy distributor in São Paulo, stated that an occurrence at an ISA CTEEP substation, which supplies energy to the utility, caused the interruption of the power supply.

The distributor highlighted that the incident was observed at 07:59 am and was restored in around three minutes for most of the affected customers.

A company also said it had normalized the service in all regions at 8:12 am after the resumption of supply by ISA CTEEP.

Power outages

That was just another interruption in electricity service Registered in Sao Paulo in a short space of time.

Na Tuesday night of Carnival (13), residents of several regions of the capital of São Paulo and the metropolitan region suffered a blackout, due to the rains that hit the area.

The city suffered from gusts of wind, flooding and falling trees. On Ash Wednesday (14), several neighborhoods were still without access to electricity.

No January 8th this year, storms also left residents without access to power for more than 17 hours in several neighborhoods.

However, the most serious case occurred in the November 3, 2023, when a storm left more than 2 million people without electricity in São Paulo and cities in the metropolitan region.

Enel was heavily criticized because the blackout persisted for more than five days for thousands of people, which caused the loss of refrigerated food and damage to customers' appliances.

Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) even considered canceling the City Hall contract with the company and ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) had to intervene with application of a fine of R$165 million to the distributor.

In the midst of all these problems, who has been “calm” about the lack of light in Sao Paulo are consumers with battery solutions, since this type of solution stores excess energy generated for later use without leaving the consumer tied to the distributor's network.
