Investment in data centers worldwide is expected to total around US$3 trillion in the coming years, according to a report by the Moody's rating agency. Ceará is part of this trend with the construction of the largest data storage center in Brazil, located in the Port of Pecém, in Caucaia, in the metropolitan region of Fortaleza.
With increasing prominence on the energy agenda, the debate on data centers will be central to Intersolar Brasil Nordeste 2026, held in Fortaleza on April 28 and 29. On the second day of the congress, five leading experts on the subject will meet to discuss data centers in the Northeast region of Brazil.
Tito Costa, revenue director at Tecto Data Centers, and Rodrigo Abreu, CEO of Omnia Data Centers, will discuss the topic with three other participants. Omnia is responsible for the construction of the data center in the Pecém Export Processing Zone (ZPE).
Fábio Feijó, CEO of the Pecém Export Processing Zone, Joaquim Rolim, Sustainable Development Manager at FIEC, and Daniel Lima Costa, director of Agrosolar Sustainable Investments, complete the panel of debaters.
Brazil as a protagonist
Brazil's share of renewable energy in the electricity matrix, that is, the part of the energy matrix that generates electricity, was 88,2% in 2024. The data is contained in the Summary Report of the National Energy Balance 2025, released by the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy).
Construction is underway at the Port of Pecém for the mega data center of ByteDance, the Chinese tech giant that owns TikTok. The growth of data processing centers is a consequence of generative artificial intelligence, video streaming, and the continuous expansion of digital services. These factors increase the computational load, with a consequent increase in energy consumption.
How can we ensure technological and digital expansion based on clean energy, without water usage implications, while maintaining competitiveness and reliability?
