O DER-RJ (Department of Highways of the State of Rio de Janeiro) completed the installation of a solar power plant, in Piraí, in the South Fluminense region, with the objective of supplying the entity's headquarters building and unit in Niterói (RJ).

The photovoltaic system, in model on-grid, will enter operation starting next month. The plant was designed to generate 960 MWh per year, being composed 1.150 photovoltaic modules with a power of 550 Wp.

Altogether, the State government estimated to save more than R$4 million in public accounts with the installation of the new plant. The idea is that the money be invested in road and infrastructure improvement works for municipalities.

A city of Piraí was chosen to house the plant due to the strategic position it occupies, since its location It has a high incidence of sun throughout the day.

O solar energy system occupies a plot of 41 thousand m², where a DER conservation unit also operates in the region. The entire installation was carried out by the company Pemipa Soluções, Serviços e Empreendimentos Ltda.

Altogether, they were invested more than R$3,7 million for the construction of the solar plant, with the payback (return time for the contribution made) estimated is a year and a half, according to DER-RJ.
