The board of ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) defined, in a meeting held this Tuesday (9), that January 1, 2026 will mark the official date of the interconnection of the Boa Vista (RR) system to the SIN (National Interconnected System). This means that, from that date, Roraima will officially cease to be an isolated system for regulatory purposes.
Even with the physical infrastructure already in operation since September 2025, the Agency highlighted that there are still technical and contractual issues preventing the region from fully meeting the requirements. These include adjustments and formalizations of sector contracts, pending registration issues, and technical matters related to integration into the regulated market.
Until all these requirements are met, Roraima will continue to be treated as an isolated system from a regulatory standpoint. ANEEL It also clarified that the application of the Tariff Flags, as well as the collection of other sectorial obligations associated with the SIN (National Interconnected System), will only be valid from the date of the formal interconnection of Roraima Energia.
From historical isolation to national integration.
For decades, Roraima was the only Brazilian state outside the National Interconnected System (SIN) due to geographical, environmental, and economic factors. The absence of transmission lines forced the use of its own system, based mainly on local generation from thermal sources, with high costs and greater dependence on fossil fuels.
At certain times, the state also had to resort to importing energy from Venezuela to supplement its supply. The construction of the Boa Vista transmission line broke this historical isolation and represented a structural change for the national electricity sector.
Benefits for consumers and businesses
A ANEEL It highlights that, with the formal connection to the National Interconnected System (SIN), Roraima will have full access to the national electricity grid, which is mostly renewable, thus reducing structural system costs and increasing the reliability of supply. Furthermore, the measure paves the way for new contracting models.
For the first time, companies established in the state will be able to migrate to the Free Energy Market, increasing competitiveness and creating more favorable conditions for productive investments. The integration also facilitates the inclusion of local renewable energy sources, such as solar power, in the national system, strengthening energy security and the energy transition in the state.
