A CASAN (Companhia Catarinense de Águas e Saneamento) will adopt solar generation systems in light treatment plants. With the aim of promoting improvements and optimizing services to the population of Santa Catarina, the savings will be around 48%.
The company began the bidding process for the installation of a photovoltaic plant at the company's largest station, located in the municipality of Palhoça, in Florianópolis. The initiative focuses on reducing costs, which are around R$143 million per year in electricity alone.
Among the benefits of the project are tariff-free energy for 25 years, expected return on investment in five to six years and the non-incidence of Tariff Flags, which increase prices.
The capacity of the treatment plant, which supplies five municipalities in the metropolitan region (Santo Amaro da Imperatriz, Palhoça, São José, Biguaçu and Florianópolis), is equivalent to 180 thousand 1.000 liter reservoirs.
According to Pedro Joel Horstmann, director of Operations and Expansion at CASAN, the company contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions, among other environmental pollutants.
The company adopts measures that are aligned with the UN (United Nations) Agenda 2030, which provides sustainability strategies so that it is possible to minimize the emission of greenhouse gases.
