The Uruguayan government has intensified diplomatic efforts to become the first country to ratify the agreement between Mercosur and the European Union, considered strategic for the bloc's international integration. This information was confirmed by Foreign Minister Mario Lubetkin after bilateral meetings with European authorities.
According to the chancellor, meetings with representatives of the European Union have made progress in defining the first half of the year as the deadline for finalizing the process. Lubetkin highlighted that early ratification by Uruguay would have a strong symbolic and practical impact on the regional and international scene.
As part of the technical preparation, the Uruguayan government requested that IDB (Inter-American Development Bank) A study to assess the effects of the agreement, identifying potentially benefited economic sectors and those that may face challenges with trade liberalization.
Alongside its European agenda, Uruguay is also expanding its strategy for relations with China. The country plans to sign more than 25 bilateral agreements during a state visit scheduled for the first week of February.
The official mission will take place between February 3rd and 7th and includes meetings between President Yamando Orsi and Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this is an unprecedented visit, both in terms of the volume of agreements expected and the size of the delegation accompanying the head of state.
