The seminar “Extreme Climate Events: International Experience and Impacts on Electric Power Grids” will be held this Wednesday (11) by the Instituto Abradee (Brazilian Association of Electric Energy Distributors) in partnership with Infra Agency.
According to a report by the World Meteorological Organization, 2023 extreme weather events were recorded in Brazil in 12 alone, nine of which were considered unusual and two were unprecedented. The event aims to exchange experiences with other countries on the impacts on electricity grids that are now recurring in Brazil.
Held at the Windsor Hotel, in Asa Norte de Brasília (DF), from 8 am to 12:30 pm, it can also be attended by Infra Agency channel on Youtube.
The seminar will be opened by Marcos Madureira, president of Abradee; Sandoval Feitosa, general director of ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) and representing the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy).
Among the guests, the following international presences have been confirmed: Michael Spoor, consultant and former vice president of Florida Power, who will give a special presentation based on his experiences dealing with hurricanes such as Katrina, Frances, Jeanne and several others that hit the US East Coast in the early 2000s.
In addition to the presence of Grant McEachran, from S&C Electric Company and with experience at Ofgem, the sector's regulatory body in the United Kingdom, bringing her experiences of dealing with regulatory issues in other countries in the face of severe weather events.
The event will also feature two panels: the first on regulatory issues, with Grant McEachran and professors Nivalde de Castro, coordinator of the Electric Sector Study Group (Gesel/UFRJ), and Walmir Freitas, from Unicamp. The panel will be moderated by the CEO of Energisa Group, Ricardo Botelho.
The second panel will address climate challenges in the context of urban centers and will feature Pedro Regoto de Souza, from Climatempo; Sérgio Brazolin, from IPT (Institute of Technological Research); and Rose Hofmann, former director of PPI (Investment Partnership Program) and partner at Delta Infra. The panel will be moderated by Solange Ribeiro, vice president of Regulation, Institutional Affairs and Sustainability at Neoenergia.
