To increase efficiency of the production of two photovoltaic complexes in the State of São Paulo, AES Brazil has been investing in technological innovations, such as monitoring drones and robots for cleaning photovoltaic panels.

“This has contributed to a better equipment performance, reduced uptime and operating cost, in addition to the safety of our employees”, he explained Alexandre Bezdiguian, coordinator of the Solar Plant Operations at AES Brasil, which was the first company in the country to implement the use of technology for cleaning panels.

Our dry periods, there is a greater dispersion of dust in the air. In addition, the fires that have been recorded in a large part of the country emit even more particulate matter that is deposited on the photovoltaic panels.

Brazil needs to invest US$0,5 trillion in renewables to lead energy transition

According to the company, this causes the equipment to receive less sunlight, impacting energy production. Recently, the AES Brasil acquired two new robots to clean the more than 550 thousand modules of the Ouroeste and Guaimbê Complexes, which together have an installed capacity of 328,3 MW. The products are about five times more efficient than their predecessors, with the capacity to clean 20 plates per day – or up to 4 per hour.

Dirt particles deposited on the panels can also cause hot spots, which reduce their useful life. Therefore, the company stated that it has also started using drones that help in mapping and inspecting the plants in up to five hours, making it possible to identify hot spots.

Drones also support the identification of strings that may be out of operation, whereas before the equipment required analysis through a set of data. “With the adoption of new technologies, we calculate that the agility in identifying problems and repairing faults guarantees a 50% gain in operational efficiency,” added Bezdiguian.

Expansion of the Ouroeste Solar Complex

In the second quarter of this year, AES Brasil completed the expansion of the Ouroeste Solar Complex, through the construction of the AGV VII Solar Park. The plants that make up the complex now have an installed capacity of 178,3 MW, enough to supply a city of approximately 800 inhabitants.
