Macaé Airport (RJ) has begun construction of a solar power plant that will allow it to fully supply its operations with clean energy starting in February 2026.
The project is part of the dealership's strategy. Zurich Airport Brazil, responsible for the terminal's administration, to expand the use of sustainable solutions in the national airport infrastructure.
With an installed capacity of 1 MW and 1.455 photovoltaic modules, the plant will guarantee the total supply of the terminal's energy demand, representing an estimated savings of 49% in monthly electricity costs.
The total investment is R$ 2,8 million, with completion of the works scheduled for December. This project adds to other recent investments made in the airport, which received R$ 220 million for the construction of a new runway, inaugurated in June of this year.
“We are investing in solutions that reduce the environmental impact of airport operations and contribute to a more sustainable future for the region where we operate,” says Ricardo Gesse, CEO of [Company Name]. Zurich Airport Brazil.

Sectoral context
The investment reflects a global trend of decarbonization in the airport sector, aligned with the carbon neutrality goals of ACI (Airport Carbon Accreditation).
In Brazil, other terminals have also made progress in adopting solar energy, such as:
- Viracopos Airport (SP), which operates a 2 MW photovoltaic system in partnership with CPFL Soluções, supplying part of the terminal's operations;
- Florianópolis Airport (SC), managed by Zurich Airport Brazil itself, which already has a solar power plant with 4,2 panels and 100% renewable energy supply;
- Salvador Airport (BA), operated by Vinci Airports, which was the first in the country to operate on 100% solar energy, reducing its emissions by more than 30%.
- Brasilia International Airport (DF), which installed a 3 MW plant, one of the largest in the sector in the country, with expansion planned until 2026.
