Bezos revealed that the e-commerce giant will invest in an additional 3.4 GW of solar and wind power – corresponding to 26 new utility-scale projects around the world – bringing its total capacity to 6.5 GW.

As part of the plan, Amazon announced that it has decided to open in four new markets, investing in projects in France, Germany, Italy and South Africa. In addition, it will work on more energy farms in Australia, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States .

“It’s great progress toward Amazon’s goal of being 100% renewable,” added the executive, who said the company is the world’s largest corporate sponsor of clean and sustainable energy.

In total, Amazon owns and operates 127 renewable energy projects around the world, including 59 utility-scale wind and photovoltaic projects, as well as 68 solar rooftops at its storage facilities.

According to a report released by BNEF (BloombergNEF) in early 2020, the company is the third largest corporate buyer of renewable energy in the United States, behind only Google and Facebook.
