Cervejaria Ambev has entered into a partnership with solar energy companies in Minas Gerais and will provide bars and restaurants in Minas Gerais with clean, renewable energy that is up to 15% cheaper than what they currently pay.
According to the announcement, the solar parks installed in Belo Horizonte, Uberaba and Uberlândia will generate and send energy to the local concessionaire, which will distribute it to the network that powers the bars and, as a result, the value of the electrical energy saved will be deducted from the electricity bill at points of sale. In total, the project could benefit up to 30 thousand bars and restaurants in the state.
“This is a sustainable and pioneering initiative in the sector, which can help bar and restaurant owners who have been impacted by social isolation. The expenditure on electricity is one of the most representative within these establishments, which use freezers, refrigerators and other equipment that consumes high energy and are essential for the activity”, explains Renan Gaiad, Sustainability and Supplies Manager at Ambev.
The process of joining the project is free and very simple. The establishment needs to register on a digital platform that will connect it to a nearby partner solar plant. Distribution will normally be done through the energy concessionaire's network, without cost, membership fee or need for any adaptation to the current electrical system.
The pilot project is now available free of charge to establishments located in Belo Horizonte, Uberaba and Uberlândia, which can now contact us via email energiasolar@ambev.com.br.
According to Ambev, in the coming months the project should be expanded to the entire state of Minas Gerais and in 2020 it should reach the states of Ceará, Pernambuco, Maranhão and the Federal District.
